Birth:
the moment when everything changes

Hi, I'm Danica Donnelly, a birth photographer and filmmaker based in Colorado Springs. Birth photography has a $990 session fee, and birth films (a 7–10 minute video of your birth) are $990. Digital files, albums, and wall art are chosen separately at a viewing appointment. I only take births a couple of months each year, so reach out early.

The raw, real, and vulnerable beginning of your journey.

The moment you meet your baby for the first time.

The moment you become a parent.

Your baby's transition from womb to world.

This moment is perhaps one of the most transformative experiences of your life!

And it only happens once.

I only open up my calendar to be on call for births for a couple of months per year.

Space is very limited and goes quickly so reach out early!

"Danica is one of the best birth photographers I’ve had the privilege of working with.

Her work is absolutely incredible, and she has so much respect for the birth space.

She is able to capture the most intimate moments without disrupting the flow of labor.

I recommend her to all of my doula clients and friends!"

Questions about Family Sessions:

How much does birth photography cost?

The session fee is $990, and a birth film is $990. Digital files and heirloom products are chosen separately; most families invest between $1,000 and $6,000 in products.

When should I book a birth photographer?

As early as possible. I only open my calendar for births a couple of months each year, and spots fill quickly. Most families book early in their second trimester.

When do you go on call?

Honestly, I go on call the moment you sign the contract and pay the invoice. After that point I'm excitedly awaiting the news that you are in labor! I really start adjusting my life activities about 6 weeks before your guess date to make sure I will get the call no matter where I am or what I'm doing.

Will you get in the way during labor?

No. I work quietly and respect the birth space. As one doula put it, I capture intimate moments without disrupting the flow of labor. My quiet, peaceful presence is a benefit to your labor, not a hinderance.

What's in a birth film?

A 7–10 minute film of your birth day that brings back your emotions, your first words to your baby, and the sound of their first cries.

Do you photograph home, birth center, and hospital births?

I've photographed hundreds of births including home, birth center and hospital births and I'm familiar with the practices of all three. Occasionally hospitals have policies on what the photographer can or can not photograph, so I'd be happy to chat with you about that before booking, or you may want to ask your care provider.

What happens if you miss the birth?

Sometimes babies come really, really fast! Like, minutes after you call me to come. In that case, I still get to you as fast as I can and take pictures of all those precious first moments together. That's the most important part anyhow, the first snuggles, the first words, that sweet afterglow. I would much rather be called to come too early than too late, but if baby comes faster than any of us could plan for, then there's no refund policy, I just photograph what it happening once I arrive. If I miss a birth entirely, depending on the situation, I might offer a newborn session instead.

What happens after the birth?

Every session includes a date night, where you see your images together for the first time and can choose albums, wall art, and digital heirlooms at a discount.

The birth of this child only happens once.
Don't miss it!
