The day your family becomes official deserves to be remembered

Colorado Springs & the Front Range · Adoption photos + films

You've waited. Maybe for months, maybe for years. You've filled out the paperwork, sat through the home visits, held your breath through every phone call. And now the day is here. I'm Danica, a documentary adoption photographer in Colorado Springs, and I'd be honored to tag along and capture it all: the nervous hallway giggles, the judge's words, the first family hug, and the quiet, ordinary moments at home that follow.

Adoption day photos that tell your whole story

Adoption day goes by in a blur. Your heart is so full, it's hard to take it all in. One day your child will ask about this day, and I want you to be able to show them. Not a stiff, posed picture on the courthouse steps. The real thing.

The way your daughter clung to your neck in the waiting room. The tissues passed down the row of grandparents. Your son banging the judge's gavel like it was the best day of his life (because it was).
These are the moments that say you were wanted. You were chosen. You were always loved.

Adoption photography sessions in Colorado Springs

Before the court date, before the phone call, there's the waiting. And there's your adoption profile, the book an expectant mom will hold in her hands as she imagines who might raise her baby. She isn't looking for perfect. She's looking for a glimpse of your real life: Saturday pancakes, the way you laugh at each other's jokes, the dog curled up at your feet, the quiet corner you've been getting ready.

A documentary session at home and in the places you love shows her who you really are. No stiff, matching portraits. Just the two of you, your people, your everyday life, and all the love you're ready to give. I'll follow your agency's photo guidelines, and you'll receive 100+ images ready for your printed profile book and online profile within 3 weeks.

And when your call finally comes, I'd love to be there for that chapter too.

Your adoption profile, before you're matched

The morning at home, the drive, the courtroom, and the celebration afterward. I photograph your adoption hearing at the El Paso County courthouse or wherever your finalization takes place, plus the little moments around it that make the day yours.

Finalization day

The first time your child walks through your front door, or the moment you step off the plane together after an international adoption. Tears, balloons, sleepy jet lag and all.

Homecoming and airport arrivals

For families who have loved a child long before the court made it official. I'll document your real, everyday life together and the day it all becomes permanent. Before finalization, I follow your caseworker's guidelines for photos and sharing, so your child's privacy is always protected.

Foster-to-adopt families

A relaxed, in-home documentary session in the weeks after placement. Bedtime stories, pancakes on the counter, the dog who's already decided this kid is his favorite person. Real family moments, just as they are.

Your first days as a family

What to expect from your adoption photography session

A stress free consultation where you tell me your story, at whatever level feels right to you. I'll ask about the people who'll be there and anything that's tender or private.

We talk first

I'll help you check courtroom photo rules with your attorney or caseworker ahead of time, so there are no surprises on the day.

I handle the logistics

No posing. No "everybody look at me." I quietly follow along and capture what's actually happening, so you can be fully present.

You just be present

You'll receive 100+ edited images in an online gallery and a short film within 4 weeks. Many families also choose an heirloom album, a book your child can hold and page through for years.

Adoption photography FAQ

How I photograph adoption days

I'm usually the one crouched in the corner of the courtroom, or sitting cross-legged on your living room floor. I don't direct. I watch. I wait for the little hand slipping into yours, the grandpa wiping his eyes when he thinks no one's looking.

Adoption carries big, complicated feelings: joy, relief, and sometimes grief for what came before. I hold space for all of it. I'll always ask how you'd like your child's birth family, story and history handled, and nothing is shared publicly without your permission.

I've been photographing families for over 20 years, and I've hired a documentary photographer for my own family several times. I know what it means to look back at these images. That's why I do this work.

I'll be right there, quietly capturing your real, authentic moments.

In most Colorado courtrooms, yes, with the judge's permission. Adoption hearings are usually joyful and many judges welcome photos, but rules vary by courthouse and by judge. I'll help you check with your attorney or caseworker beforehand.

Can you take photos in the courtroom during an adoption finalization?

Most finalization sessions are 2 to 3 hours and cover getting ready at home, the hearing, and the celebration afterward. The hearing itself is often only 20 to 30 minutes, so the moments around it matter just as much.

How long is an adoption day session?

Yes. I follow your agency's guidelines, which often means I won't share images where your child can be identified until the adoption is finalized. You still get to keep every photo.

Can you photograph a foster child before the adoption is final?

Only with your permission. Adoption stories belong to your family and your child. Many families choose to keep their gallery completely private.

Will our photos be shared online?

Documentary sessions and adoption day coverage starts at $450. Visit my pricing page or message me and I'll send you my open dates.

How much does adoption photography cost in Colorado Springs?

Yes. I document families across the Front Range, including Colorado Springs, Monument, Castle Rock, Denver, Boulder and the mountains.

Do you travel for adoption sessions?

Yes. Hopeful adoptive parents in Colorado Springs and along the Front Range hire me for a relaxed documentary session for their adoption profile. Instead of posed portraits, expectant moms see your real home, your relationships and your everyday life, which helps them feel like they already know you. I follow your agency's photo guidelines and deliver images ready for print and online profiles.
