Nothing says authentic childhood quite like a messy meal shared with a furry best friend. This little girl had a habit of sharing her mac and cheese with her puppy companion. And he was there for it!! I mean, look at those eyes!

Her mom wanted to make sure I captured this moment as it was something that drove her a bit crazy, but ultimately that she knew was sweet, and special, and she would one day miss.

This birth series is particularly special. I was up all night at this birth with my dear friends just hours before I met my own baby.

I was 37.5 weeks (and imagine my belly with my first at nearly 43 weeks…a whole month more of growing! 🤯) There were 4 pregnant women in the room at this birth (the laboring mother, me, the doula, and the nurse). I swear all those hormones is what put me into labor!! 🙌🏼

And then, less than two weeks later, I took my newborn to the birth of another dear friend, the final photos in the series. I nursed him, while supporting my friend, through her contractions, while also photographing her birth. The little cries of my baby, encouragement to her souls that all her hard work was bringing her own baby closer.

Also random observation: the first birth was a hospital birth, the second was a birth center, and the third was a homebirth. All beautiful options for birthing!

The life of a birth worker is so unpredictable, so all-consuming, so important, and beautiful, and necessary.

This was not the intention of this post, but if you feel so inclined, go support a birth worker in your life: get them a coffee, get them massage, let them have a nap, make them a meal, just tell them thank you for the sacrifices they make to be there whenever babies decide to enter this world.
