sometimes i think i became a photographer because i am so terribly forgetful. if i don't write something down, it will get lost in space, never to return. i'm always writing little notes here and there on scraps of paper or in a notebook or on a receipt. or i will take a picture of an idea that i want to remember. i've seriously considered studying memory and putting myself through my own memory-improving course...

being a photographer gives me a lot of power to create images that solidify a memory or an emotion. i love being able to participate in the life and experiences of those who allow me to photograph them. i love being able to capture the emotion of fully engaging in that experience. i know from my own experience in being photographed that i can return to an image at any point in the future and feel those same emotions that i experienced when the image was taken. and when you surround your home with images of what it looks like when others express their love for you, you will always have access to that love. that is the power of photography. that is why i love and value what i do.
