This time of year, when the morning air is still crisp and frosty
but the afternoon sun actually warms the skin, reminds me of these photos.
They are a few years old but they are a good reminder to me of the beauty
that is right outside my doorstep - the beauty that is all around us if we just look.
I took these photos two years ago on the first day that it was 40 degrees outside - the first time all winter
that a person in Minnesota could stand outside for more than 5 minutes without all their organs shriveling up and freezing.
I was determined to take some pictures on this particularly warm day because my camera had been laying dormant
for a few frozen months and we both were ready to rekindle our relationship. All it took was me wanting to see beauty
and then there it was; I went no further than my bedroom and my front porch. When I was looking for things to photograph,
I was surprised by how beautiful the dead and dry hydrangea flowers were... they had been weathering the winter for months
and still they stood strong - the delicate petals still appeared to be weightless and whimsical, almost like butterfly wings.
Even a young bird came and sat by me, reminding me to stay hopeful, for spring was just around the corner.
